Our Class Charter
In the Glen we believe in growing independence
In the Glen we have implemented the Talk for Writing scheme to aid our children in their learning. Talk for Writing is a curriculum programme for raising standards of writing. It makes extensive use of classroom talk to help children become familiar with a range of text genres. For each genre, this familiarisation is extended through ‘talking the text’, shared and guided teaching and pupils’ independent writing of the same type of text. It highlights key areas of phonics and is proven to build confidence in the classroom. Last term our pupils were very successful when using this scheme and we saw a rise in their academic attainment and confidence in learning.
What can you do?
Whilst we will continue to practice our key phonic sounds, blends and tricky words through class-based activities and reading on a regular basis we have seen a real improvement in everyone's attitude towards reading this last half term. I'd like to take the opportunity to encourage you all to really nurture this love of reading at home by reading regularly with your child, as it has been proven to boost attainment. If you'd like any advice on where to start with this, please feel free to give us a call! Furthermore, please follow the links below, in particular, 'phonics play' for free activities you can do at home.
Below are the links to some of the songs we have been listening to in class to help us with our learning. The children have been seen to really enjoy these and I am sure would want to share them with you!
A BIG thank you!
I also just wanted to say a big thank you to all the parents of the Glen. Homework will only be provided to the children should they request it as we do not believe in putting any additional pressure on the children during their down time at home. However, as children are now asking to take work home to complete over the weekend and school holidays I am delighted to see it coming back in. We have seen a massive improvement in their confidence this term with both their phonics and maths so to all of those who are taking the time at home to complete homework or read with their children, thank you so much!
