Meet the Governors of Wey Valley College

At Wey Valley College, a Pupil Referral Unit and academy dedicated to providing an inclusive, high-quality education for students aged 5 to 16, governance plays a vital role in ensuring our school thrives and delivers on its mission. Our Local Governing Body (LGB) is a committed team of individuals who meet three times a year to oversee the strategic direction and accountability of the school. This page introduces you to the crucial role our governors play in supporting our vision and values.

The Role of the Local Governing Body

The LGB at Wey Valley College is central to maintaining our culture of honesty, respect, and compassion. Governors work collaboratively with the Head of School, staff, parents, and the wider community to:

  • Champion high standards and integrity in school leadership and provision.
  • Support creative innovation and bespoke inclusion tailored to the unique needs of our students.
  • Oversee the effective use of resources to maximise outcomes for all young people.
  • Ensure the school meets national standards and performs exceptionally under the OFSTED inspection framework.
  • Monitor progress towards our vision of providing the most appropriate and high-quality educational provision for every child.

Governors bring a wealth of experience from diverse backgrounds, enabling them to provide well-rounded guidance and challenge that benefits our students and staff alike.

How Governance Supports Our Vision and Values

Our governors embody the core values of Wey Valley College by:

  • Upholding respect for every student’s unique journey, particularly those who have faced exclusion or barriers to learning.
  • Demonstrating compassion through their commitment to safeguarding and promoting well-being.
  • Acting with honesty and transparency in all decisions, ensuring that the school remains accountable to parents and the wider community.

By supporting supportive collaboration between the school, families, and partner organisations, governors help us create an environment where students feel seen, valued, and empowered to reach their potential.

Why Governance Matters to Parents and the Community

We understand that parents and carers want reassurance that Wey Valley College is a safe, nurturing, and effective place for their child’s education. Our governors play a key role in providing this reassurance by:

  • Regularly reviewing school policies and practices to ensure they align with the latest educational standards and safeguarding requirements.
  • Engaging with parents and the local community to listen to feedback and represent their views at governance meetings.
  • Supporting initiatives that focus on building life skills, self-regulation, and social development for our students.
