Admissions at Wey Valley College
Welcome to the Admissions page for Wey Valley College (WVC), a Pupil Referral Unit Academy dedicated to providing an inclusive, high-quality education for students aged 5 to 16 who require alternative provision. We work closely with local authorities and mainstream schools across the South West area of Surrey to support students who have been permanently excluded or require early intervention placements. Our admissions process reflects our commitment to honesty, respect, and compassion, ensuring every child receives the education and support they need to thrive.
Permanent Exclusions Admissions
When spaces are available, the Local Authority refers pupils who have been permanently excluded from Primary and Secondary mainstream schools within South West Surrey to Wey Valley College. These places allow us to provide an alternative, supportive learning environment tailored to the needs of each student.
Our approach is grounded in our vision to ensure all young people have access to the most appropriate educational provision. We champion bespoke inclusion and supportive collaboration to help students rebuild confidence, develop self-belief, and succeed academically and socially.
Primary Early Intervention Placements
We understand the importance of timely support to prevent permanent exclusion. Our Primary Intervention Admissions offer schools an opportunity to refer students for short-term, targeted intervention placements designed to address early signs of behavioural or learning challenges.
Referral Process:
Primary schools can refer pupils by completing the ‘Alternative Provision – Early Intervention Screener’ form, which is submitted to the Specialist Teachers for Inclusive Practice Service (S.T.I.P.S) and the RVC. This form is distributed through the local S.T.I.P.S team.
Panel Review:
Referrals are reviewed at a half-termly panel meeting attended by Lead Professionals from S.T.I.P.S, the SEND Team Manager, and members of the Wey Valley College Leadership Team. This ensures each pupil’s needs are carefully considered, and places are allocated based on suitability using agreed criteria.
Placement Details:
Early intervention placements usually last for 12 weeks and are full-time. A progress review occurs at week 7 involving WVC staff and the placing school to discuss development and plan a smooth transition.
Exit and Ongoing Support:
At the end of the placement, an exit meeting includes parents, the placing school, S.T.I.P.S, and WVC to review progress and agree on ongoing support. Continued assistance may be provided through the Behaviour Reintegration Support Assistant via S.T.I.P.S to help pupils succeed upon their return to mainstream education.
This intervention reflects our values of compassion and respect, as we strive to break down barriers to learning and nurture positive relationships that empower our students to flourish both inside and outside school.
WVC has a PAN of 44, this is 12 for Primary and 32 for Secondary.
